Tips for high pollen levels
- When levels are high, keep windows closed, especially in the morning and early afternoon.
- After time outdoors, shower and change clothes so you do not carry pollen indoors.
- Air the rooms after rain or late in the evening, when there is less pollen in the air.
- Use a pollen filter in the car and keep the windows closed.
- At the peak of the season, dry laundry indoors rather than outside.
- For persistent or severe symptoms, seek medical or allergy advice.
Legend
Allergens and their seasons
Ragweed
Hungary's most significant allergen. Even low concentrations cause strong symptoms: sneezing, a runny nose, itchy eyes and throat.
Grasses
The main cause of early-summer hay fever. Freshly cut grass and flowering meadows trigger symptoms in many people.
Birch
One of the strongest spring tree pollens. It often cross-reacts with certain fruits such as apple and peach.
Alder
One of the earliest spring pollens; it can appear as early as late winter. In mild winters its season starts sooner.
Mugwort
It flowers around the same time as ragweed and often affects sensitive people alongside it in late summer.
Olive
Rare in Hungary; measurable amounts occur mainly in the warmer southern areas.
